Antenatal Care

From the very beginning of your pregnancy to and beyond the big day, Dr Moodley will support you throughout the journey. Dr Moodley's antenatal care is tailored specifically to the needs of each trimester of your pregnancy to achieve optimal health for the mother and developing child whilst addressing any health issues that may arise.

When should I see an obstetrician?

Following a positive pregnancy test, you should contact our practice immediately so that we can schedule your first prenatal visit between week 6 and week 8 of your pregnancy.

This is usually the longest visit for an uncomplicated pregnancy, as it will include a physical examination to confirm your pregnancy and your estimated due date. In addition, Dr Moodley will perform blood tests, discuss your medical and reproductive health history, and provide you with a detailed prenatal care plan.

What can I expect during my prenatal visits?

This first visit can be overwhelming for some expecting mothers, especially if it is your first child, but Dr Moodley will do her utmost best to ease your concerns and answer any questions you may have.

After your first visit, Dr Moodley recommends this schedule for prenatal visits:

  • From the first trimester to 28 weeks: every 4 weeks
  • From 28 – 36 weeks: every 2 weeks
  • From 36 weeks until delivery: weekly

The goal of these routine prenatal visits is to:

  • To track proper fetal growth and development
  • To optimise your health through disease detection and prevention
  • To address proper nutrition and supplements to ensure appropriate weight gain
  • To encourage regular physical activity during pregnancy

As you approach your due date, you may have many questions and concerns regarding the birth of your baby. Dr Moodley will guide you through what you can expect and your options in terms of childbirth and delivery.

Having a child is one of life's special moments; for Dr Moodley, being part of that journey is just as memorable. She is committed to providing you with the best prenatal care possible so that your experience is not overshadowed by stress or the lack of support.
